1) no audio. Device Manager sez all is fine, AC97 audio driver installed with no conflicts, etc. However, Multimedia Properties have no devices available to select for prefered playback, record, or MIDI - they are greyed out. Microsoft support web pages sez this is misconfigured device drivers.

I've un-installed DirectX, reloaded the latest drivers from Creative Labs, spent 1.5 hours long distance with CL reps, but no luck. MIDI works, DOS works... only WAV does not. no sound when non-root
Now I have no sound. According to device manager, my diamond multimedia plug and play sound system components and drivers are all installed and running properly without conflicts. However, under control panel multimedia properties, it shows no audio playback or recording devices available.

No audio with built in audio!
None of this functionality is available in VB. There exists a SAPI component that can do some, perhaps all, of this work for you. That component may not be accessible from VB. But then to be thwarted in my attempts at setting the audio device to something other than the sound card is extremely frustrating.

Its not 8bit audio output with a parallel hack to get audio in with no software support. It 3d positional, digital link, DSP farm (Fx engine), you name it with an API that support the available HW features. So.. how about DSL support? does the amiga even support a midi API engine officialy? "Officially"?

No Sound Please Help
For some wierd reason, after reboot the windows media player stopped playing any Audio so I unistalled all xvid, ffdshow and AC3 filters. After another reboot the media player would not open and insisted that I No audio Playback Devices available and I can't find a way to undo damage. Any help appreciated, Etay.
